Default What Liquor Would You Recommend For An Inexperienced Drinker?

So say you are trying to drink with somebody who's never really had any liquor or a whole lot of experience with alcohol in general. What would you suggest is a good spirit to get them started down the long road to alcoholism? Not too harsh, but still effective with a good taste. I have a few ideas, just wondering what everybody else would recommend

More than likely vodka like blaydeman suggested. Since it's such a neutral spirit, it's mixing potential is vast. My suggestion would be to not mix anything too powerful, you don't want the person to become disgusted by the raw taste of alcohol before they can handle it. Vodka can mix with just about any fruit juice. Also, tonic water, practically any type of soda will mix (citrus types in particular), and of course people swear by red bull + vodka (I myself prefer vodka + this energy drink by Sobe called Adrenalin Rush http://www.sobebev.com/product_info/...enaline_lg.jpg)

You might also consider trying another great standby, good ol' whiskey and cola

I started my own thread bassed on my tastes but I figured I would coment here as well.

I haven't had much of any experience with this but I started firstly on a mixed drink called Red Death and fell in love immediately! I was going threw 3-4 a night every night at $8.50 a pop until my wallet ran into my cell phone bill and my GF wanted some new shoes If you wouldn't mind mixing it tastes like coolaid but has one hell of a punch

Spirits wise, vodka mixers (but not pre-mixed stuff) is a good way to start. Obviously you'd have to graduate from them at some point though :P

My first drink was a cosmo. It's such a chick drink.
Most enjoyable early drinks involved Bacardi Zombie and cranberry juice blended with ice. I recommend that, especially since it won't get you dead drunk unless you drink the whole bottle yourself.

.... Not that I ever did that. . . .

Or you could just do rum. Everyone likes rum. Rum likes everyone.

Either Coke and Stoli Vanilla or Coke and Malibu. Doesn't taste like you're even drinking something with alcohol at first but it sure hits you later. Okay, maybe not so much with the Malibu (very low proof) but definitely with the Stoli.

SoCo and Rose's Sweetened Lime Juice if you're looking to get them to do shots.

If it's a mixed drink you're after, I actually find Skyy Citrus or Svedka Citron + Lemon flavored water to be pretty refreshing and easy to chug for an easy drinking buzz.

Also Vanilla vodka (Stoli Vanil comes to mind) plus Dr. Pepper is almost too easy to drink as the vodka taste is extremely disguised by the Dr. Pepper flavor. Only time I can really pick up the vodka taste is if I'm pouring it extremely heavy.

I started with Crown and Coke, but I think a good Captain and Sprite would work better(Cream Soda)

Why not Gentleman Jack? On ice with a splash of water (or a little more) to cut what little edge there is.
