What is the "proper" way to drink cognac?
I have some Hennessy cognac that I would like to try, but I want to make certain that I drink it in an appropriate manner such that I can fully enjoy it. Any suggestions? Should it be sampled on ice? Should it be sampled at room temperature? If it isn't already blatantly obvious, I'm new to cognac.

If you're new to it, I suggest sampling it in a variety of ways. Ultimately though, the best way to drink a good cognac is neat at around room temp A snifter is usually the best glass, but I believe a nice tulip shaped wine glass will do the trick

Unfortunately, I don't know how practical that is; I only have a small, 50ML bottle.

Do it at room temp then Brandy is really meant to be savored anyway, try to coax all the nuances out of it.

Would a wine glass (tulip) suffice? I don't have a brandy sniffer.

Perhaps I should drink the cognac before I consume more wine/beer.
What is your opinion of Hennesy "Very Special?"

Well I'm about halfway through my drink and I can say that I am enjoying it. It's obvious that my pallet is not quite developed, but I can still discern several pleasant flavors. Now if I could only get used to that burn.

It's ok, it's rough around the edges, and generally unspectacular. I prefer VSOP as a standard though.

I'll keep that in mind. I'm not sure if they sell that in 50ML bottles, though; and I'm too cheap to purchase a larger bottle.

buying the 50ml costs more per volume than the larger ones.

Hennessy XO is my Drink of choice at this point, i go through bottles of it. I would suggest warming your glass and then pouring it, allow the nose to get to you then sip it and allow the flavors to stimulate various parts of your palate.
