Default Randomly higher ABV in a beer?

Don't know quite how to describe it - but the Chimay Blue I had last night had a very, very strong alcohol taste to it, a burning sensation, and also wacked me on my tail pretty nicely

The beer was almost undrinkable - like it literally had 3-4 shots of hard alcohol mixed in the 750mL bottle. I've had dozens of the Unibroues, Chimays, yada yada, and all of them have been remarkably consistent - but this one last night was just wierd. They are all stored in the same place, drank within a month of purchase, etc.

Any ideas? Somehow some extra yeast was in there and wacked up the ABV? A monk wacked into the bottle before it was filled?

That seems odd. I really have no constructive advice/explanations to offer, unfortunately.

If the bottle has been cool then warm, cool then warm, it may have been a bad bottle.... IIRC beers alcohol content will rise when it gets "skunky"

Good point, who knows what happened before I got it, could have skunked.. but both places I get it from (Whole Foods and Sav-A-Center, regional chain) have been good to me. I take it straight from their refrigerated cooler to my crisper drawer in my fridge. Just random crap I guess...

On that note, I'm out of beer again - time for a run this week!
