Default Wine as an investment?

Is buying wine and letting it age in a cellar a good investment? Do certain kinds age better then others? Do some wines age badly and taste like s*** after sitting unopened to many years? Should you buy certain brands or certain grape types? Should you buy higher priced connoisseur wine to start with? Do you need to maintain a temperature range?

Finally if one manages to store alcohol for years in a cellar without drinking it all where do you sell your stored vintage wine when you're ready to get rid of it? Auctions?

I'm interested in this type of investment because it's simple and I don't want to get into buying stocks or day trading bulls***. If something is old and rare it is usually therefor valuable and I feel I can count on that more then something that relies on the fragile economy.

You would need a lot of money to even think about it. Plus have money to hire a person to tell you what is worthwhile as an investment. Overall, your money is better off in the market.

So would you say it's only worthwhile to buy several cases of the expensive connoisseur wine which would set me back hundreds of dollars? In other words like so many other things it's most likely that only rich people would dabble in this investment?

I was hoping I could find a way to combine two of my favorite things: Alcohol and Making Money. But perhaps it's just not meant to be.

if you're planning to sell the wine, then yes, it probably would be a good investment. some people out there do collect them.

most of the time, it's the reds that are usually the ones allowed to age a bit. a white wine should probably be drank within 2-3 years of its production. keep a temperature of about 66 for reds. for whites, a little bit colder. for dessert wines, if they are fortified with brandy, by all means, let them mature for a long time.

i am of the school of thought that wine is meant to be savored, not collected.

as for storing for sale, there are warehouses that store wine for that purpose.
