Red Hook Winter Hook Winter Ale

I got a 6 of this tonight.I have to start by saying that I love Red Hook ESB.A real tasty brew for any occasion.
Now,this beer,on the other hand is a might average.It's ok,don't get me wrong,just nothing special.It is 6% ABV.You can taste the added hops of an IPA,but there is a roasted malt flavor lurking in the wings a little.The first went down a little rough as it warmed up a little.It took on an extra bitterness in the aftertaste,but this was overcame on subsequent ones as they were given less chance to get warm
I've been underwhelmed by Red hooks other ventures but remain a true fan of good old ESB.

I really don't remember the last time I had a Red Hook. Like you said their ESB is pretty god though
