Appearance - This beer pours reddish-brown in color with little head but great retention. It's a very clean and clear beer and looks very tempting.
Smell - WOW. After one smell of this beer and I knew exactly where it got its name from. The smell reminded me of a smoked ham. I knew before ever tasting it that the smoke taste was going to be quite overwhelming.
Taste - Just as I imagined....smokey. I was a bit slow getting into this beer b/c I just could not get over the strong flavor of smoke. But finally after sipping on it awhile it started to open up a bit. The smoke flavor was still very dominate but I was finally able to pick up a hint of malt. There is also a very strong smoke aftertaste that I was not impressed with but considering what the brewer was trying to obtain with this beer, I'd say they did a great job.
Mouthfeel - This beer goes down smooth and creamy with a nice, clean finish. It was on the flat side of carbonation but it did have enough to give a little bite when swished around in the mouth.
Drinkability - This definitely isnt my style of beer but I cant condemn it just because of that. Overall, I think it is a decent beer and I believe the brewers got the result they were hoping for. To some, the strong smoke flavor may not be a deterrent and if so I believe you will enjoy this brew. The alcohol content is low at 5.4% and there is no presence of the alcohol in the taste. I probably would not drink another one but I'm glad I had the privilege to try one.
