Now, usually I prefer drinking my gin straight over ice, but occasionally I just want something more mellow. And when I mix my drinks I generally prefer a one mixer maximum.
I had a bottle of Plymouth gin(a.k.a best gin on the market), and decided to get some of that Full Throttle: Blue Demon to mix with it. The stuff is made with the blue agave plant(yep, the very same plant from which all tequila is made), and it mixed pretty damn well with my gin. I may try it again with a lower quality gin, as it's pretty easy to mix anything with Plymouth due to it's total smoothness. BTW, both bottles below are the same product, just different bottles.
The only experience i've ever had with gin was Tanqueray and Tonic.
That's a good old fashioned stand-by of mine as most places don't serve a wide variety of gins. Another would be a Tanq Ten martini. You need to try you some Plymouth gin my dude
Tanq and tonic has always been a classic favorite of mine. Been meaning to try some other gins. Plymouth as well as this one a customer of mine's been ranting and raving about for ages, Boodles.

Boodles is decent stuff. I consider Boodles to be on the same tier as say (and this is all my own personal opinion based on my tastes btw) Beefeaters, and Bombay. Next tier would be stuff like Tanq, and Bombay Saph. After that is the really good stuff like Plymouth, Hendrick's, Tanq Ten, and Bluecoat etc...
I don't touch stuff like Seagrams or Gilby's. Gin is the only liquor I don't go slumming with, i.e. if I don't have the cash for something good, I won't get it.
I feel ya Joey. There's some things you just can't go cheap on. Gin, I'm sure as I've had a gin and juice with Gilbey's one time, not knowing what was in it and my God that's some foul stuff. Scotch is another one you cannot go cheap on. I love it when customers ask me, "Is Cluny good scotch?". I simply reply "do you really want me to answer that?".
That's funny you say Tanq is above Boodles because I like Tanq and tonic but this Boodles guy was just in my store today. I guess it's personal preference but, in his opinion it's Boodles above all, then Plymouth, then Tanq.
I'll take your advice though as you clearly have more gin experience than I do. I've been meaning to dive into others but I can't sip gin like I do whiskeys and rums. Perhaps Plymouth will be the one, but I'm not really a fan of mixing and the only way I've been able to down Tanq is with tonic, I have to have something to cut that s*** with.

Yeah, it seems the darker liquors can be more conducive to drinking neat, and at room temp. I really don't care for any gin at that temp, I need ice in mine. But I try not to mix the better one's. Hendricks for example is distilled with cucumber in addition to the regular botanicals, and you can really coax some flavor out of it. That's what I like about gin, you can really get wild with the ingredients in the distillation.
