Seeking advice, I'm a alcohol Virgin!

Well I am 23 and have been a bit of a shut in.

I have tried 2 beers in my life and I hatted them both. I have been threw 5 brands of Vodka and only one I actually liked. Unfortunately Grey Goose is to expensive for a poor boy like me. I then decided Whiskey might be my thing so I tried Crown Royal. It was very good but not as smooth as I'd like. I was hoping for more body to it. Now I have tried Rum, Bacardi Superior but that just gives me a head ache..

I'm not really sure where to go from here I'm looking for a smooth drink that's more budget friendly and I'm not a fan of rough rubbing alcohol like drinks...

So I figured I would simply come to the experts and ask around here! 2 brands in particular have been recommended to me so what do you think of them? Both are $30 for 750ml/ More then I'd like to pay but err I don't know...

Hmm, have you tried Stolichnaya (a.k.a Stoli)? IMO it tastes better than Goose and it's cheaper. Stoli makes superior flavored vodka as well.

Have you tried gin? From your post I am not so sure you will enjoy it, but it's worth a try. Don't go cheap either, start with Tanqueray or Bombay. Gin is my favorite spirit, and it's worth acquiring a taste for.

Whiskey. There are a ton of good ones out there, but here's a few, Jim Beam Black, Makers Mark, or Bulleit Bourbon.

Tequila. Hard to get good quality without shelling out big bucks. However, there is a brand called 1800 that is less expensive. Both the reposado and blanco(which I still need to do a review on) by them are good.

Start out with some of that stuff, and enjoy

well I have tried some blue stuff Bombay sapphire gin? I remember it tasting like a cactus

Yeah lots of people have that sort of complaint. Give it a chance, you might come to like it. And the thing about gin is, the taste can vary greatly between certain brands depending on what sort of botanicals they use.

Pick up a bottle of Gentleman Jack. Should be a little smoother than Crown.

I have come to enjoy gin as well. Seagrams is just fine. Gin and sour mix, 2:3, shaken with ice and poured over rocks is great.

Well I picked up Makers Mark, they didn't have any thing else other then crown.

I havnt tried it yet tho saving judgment till tonight.

Update: Ok I couldn't resist I gave it a sip on the rocks. First impression is a bit rougher then Crown Royal and a bit less body to it. Not sure what makes it a bourbon whiskey but it seams to be a tad bit to weak and more like vodka to me. It's drinkable but i was hoping for more flavor...

I'm starting to think grey goose is simply te best out there for me but its 30 for half a 5th where I live

Crown is a blended whiskey. They combine different batches to achieve a consistent flavor. MM uses whisky from the same batch, so it can taste slightly different depending on the bottle.

Crown really does have a distinctive flavor. it's right out there waiting to be found. MM, I feel has a balance of flavors that wait for you rather than jump.

Wild Turkey is another one that you might like. I has a flovor closer to Crown.

Have you looked into what drinks you might make with your liquor? Rocks and 'up can get a little monotonous after a while.

no I havnt considered mixing yet. I passed the bottle to a seasoned drinking bud of mine and his first reaction was (holy s***) he says you can taste oak and its very rough with a bite. I simply cant finish it its way to strong for me.

Grey goose up here is retardedly expensive I live in a small hickish town in eastern PA.

I'm in PA as well and liquor prices are the same throughout the state. A fifth of Grey Goose is $30. A half fifth (375 ml) is $16.

Okay, I said I wasn't sure about the 200ml. What I was sure about, however, is that you didn't spend $16 for it (and I was right). You spent $10, asssuming you purchased it in PA.
