I read a book back in the 60's titled "Day on Fire" by James Ramsey Ullman where the main character, actually a fictionalized version of the poet Paul Rimbaud, did his best writings while on Absinthe. One called the "Druken Boat" was extremely well liked on the west bank. But since that reading I have always wanted to try it. When friends went to France I always asked them to bring me back a bottle, but it was illegal at the time. You may buy it now in Mexico, but I could probably say it will only be greenish rum or tequila. By the way the book is quite entertaining......
A friend of mine has been ordering Absinthe from Europe quite a bit this year. I had way too much of it Friday night. It is pricey and I feel kind of bad for drinking 1/4 bottle by myself, so I need to order a bottle myself soon.
We were drinking the Edouard 72 this weekend. It is definitely an acquired taste and make sure you dilute it properly with water and sugar before drinking.

When drinking beer if you can see light through it, you aren't drinking good beer
I tried 2 shots of red, 2 shots of blue and 2 shots of green one night while I was in Italy. I definitely felt f***ed up in a weird way. I wasn't hallucinating, but it felt much different than "normal drunk"
i've had one shot of it. so i didn't feel different or anything, and proceeded to drink other drinks then on out.. a buddy of mine somehow buys it on the internet.
people that say jager tastes like black liquorice, they have never had absinthe
Absinthe has a torrid history of people "going mad" due to the ingredient wormwood which is present in some classic brews. The active chemical, thujone, can be a mild hallucinogenic. From my personal experience after drinking it on several occasions in Germany, the problems associated with it are more related to the 70% alcohol content and people losing their minds after drinking that for breakfast for a few years. I didn't have any sort of hallucinogenic experiences myself... now...I have another story about shrooms in A-dam...for another time though.
Doesn't mean they won't have any...you will prolly have to look around a little bit though. Remember the darker the color the more alcohol thats in it but your not going to go off of being drunk its the wormwood
Have to ask the Wifes cousin next time he calls over here if he can find it and if he would send me some back!
Only people I know over seas.
Very risky to do that one of the guys I worked with did it and got fined $1500 for sending some back home. He put on the customs forms alcohol. If they haven't done it before tell them on the form to put "beverage sample"

I'm inclined to agree with you. The thujone content of today's absinthe is considerably less than what was available in Van Gogh's (an absinthe drinker of note) day. Everything credible that I've read says that the amount of thujone present in absinthe today is not enough to make someone "trip".

have u honestly tried it??? Cause seriously after you have about the same amount of as u would any type of liquor in the states to get drunk u are going to feel it. Not to mention Switzerland (where its from) just released the original content once again. If you are buying it from huge suppliers u might not be getting it with wormwood since it comes in TWO forms.
