Obviously the most simple mixer for whiskey is cola of some sort. I have mixed Beam Black with root beer before though, and it tasted pretty nice. Beam Black is pretty good though, and plenty good straight. You can drink it straight without going directly from the bottle, why don't you simply pour it in a glass with some ice cubes?

I usually find that if the liquor is cold it goes down easier. Plus, as the ice melts it will dilute the whiskey a bit.
