Cool Homemade vanilla vodka.

I'm gonna give this a try.

Plain vodka: Check.
Exotic vanilla beans: Check. 1/2 Pound Bag Whole Vanilla Beans by the Firehouse Pantry

Looks like that's all you need, besides time.

I'll let you guys know how it turns out. I just ordered 8oz of the beans for $31 ($25.50+5.50 shipping).

It has begun.

Some recipes said to use 1 bean, some said to use 6.

I used 4.

The only thing I did to the beans was slice them down the center, vertically.

Not sure. Some recipes say check it after a week. Some say wait a month.

Here's what it looks like after 4 days.

You can smell the vanilla in the vodka for sure. I'll probably use a coffee filter after it's done soaking to filter out the riff raff. There's a decent amount of bean particles floating around in the jar now.

Well.

It was 10 days ago, and this s*** reeks of vanilla. So I filtered it, and put two 1 1/2 oz shots in a glass with a can of diet pepsi and ice.

I kinda like it. It's definitely something different.

If I had it to do over, i'd use 2 beans and let it sit longer. Maybe 2 beans and a month is the way to go.

How do you think that would work with fruits?

Like berries of some sort.

So you think I should send some to Anthony?

I dunno. Maybe Pineapple.

It's pretty good in plain ol' Diet Pepsi.

You can make flavored infusions in vodka out of just about anything with flavor.

Fruit, especially berries, work exceptionally well.

For real fun, use Skittles. I'm making up some of this for Burning Man.
