Old Grand Dad 114 Proof review
Wow, I haven't done a review in awhile. However, this I think is good enough to bring me out of semi-retirement. Old Grand Dad 114 Proof.
Let me first say that I like the Old Grand Dad line of bourbon. It isn't the flashiest, it isn't the most notorious, but it gets the job done. 86 proof is ok, not the lowest, not a turpentine grade bourbon, but not exactly the connoisseurs bourbon either, I generally skip this one. My buck generally begins at the 100 proof strength. All the nonsense is done away with at this level. You are getting a no-nonsense, corn-liquor, for those that are so inclined. This one gets to the heart of things quickly. Always a staple of mine. Now, on to the good stuff.
OGD 114 Proof rises above it's lesser cousins to the ranks of somewhat topshelf fashion. The taste, which is particular of bourbon, is oakey, leathery, with hints of vanilla, and cherry, woken up by a shot of water btw. It isn't as familiar as Makers Mark, but isn't as wild as say...Eagle Rare. HOWEVER, this fantastic bottle of bourbon cost me a mere $22.00. One would normally pay close to $30.00 for a bourbon of this magnitude. This is an exceptional value! My recommendation, any bourbonites should at least give this offering a try.
p.s. No, it doesn't come with that nifty rocks glass. I actually received a pair of those glasses from (believe it or not) my old grand father a few years ago.
