This is a review of the bottle of single malt scotch whiskey Highland Park 12 Year. I bought this at my local liquor store because I was just wondering how it compared to Black Label and Green Label. Anyway, for the price of $43.99, it was a good deal (little more expensive than Black Label but cheaper than Green).
When I poured this into a collins glass and swirled it around, I smell an almond, sort of smoked-type of scent.
When I tasted the scotch neat, it was very warm and had a WONDERFUL smoked taste! I think the old/smokey taste is what sets it apart from the Black and Green Labels.
I then tried it with a large square ice cube. In that case, after letting the ice cube swirl around for about a minute, the ice cube release a lot more of the aromas of the scotch. This allowed all of those scents to be released even further. The taste was very comparable but more of the other scents of vanilla, nuts and "smoke" came out more.
This is a great scotch and I look forward to trying the 18 Year...if I can find it locally.
