Default Chivas 18 Year Blended Scotch

I got this for my birthday from some guy that didn't know anything about scotch.

I killed half the bottle the first night, so I don't remember much of it, but I just had some more.

Color: very nice, deep golden color.

Taste: Very smooth. I'm not a super experienced scotch taster, but I did note some subtle coffee, maybe even chocholate kinda flavor? It was like a bitter flavor mixed with a sweet- like a caramel. Very nice, smooth and mellow, with a slight smokey flavor in the after taste. There was virtually NONE of the bitter "bite" after taste.

However, it wasn't very complex. There weren't tons of flavor that ice or water would bring out. I'd suggest it with very little ice.

Bottom line: If you like Chivas 12 and/or smooth scotches with a comforting after taste, this is a great scotch for you.

Blended whisk(e)y will usually be very smooth, with the trade off being (as you said, with the focus being on homogeneity) a lack of complexity (but not always).

Never tried any Chivas variety. However, now that it has appeared on my radar, I just may shall

Chivas is a great blended scotch. If you're looking for a complex one, I strongly recommend Green Label. Put a dash of water in that and it's like a new scotch with all the emerging flavors. Put another dash of water and it's like new scotch all over again.

Grenn is a blend of single malts, which is a bit different from my understanding of how it all works.
