A very nice 15 year single malt, especially for its ~50-55 dollar price tag. The best? Certainly not- I'd prefer 15 year Balvinie, MacCallan and maybe even a Glenfiddish. However, those are all more expensive, so you'd expect a better scotch. Compared to other $50 scotches, it's difficult to complain.
Color: A bit more of an orange/amber tint than the golden tint you'd expect from a 15 year scotch.
Taste: It's a bit sweet, but not overwelmingly sweet. Noticably less sweet than Balvinie, but still relatively sweet. It's got a bit of bite with some acidity to it- I'm not sure if that's why I taste citrus but I sense a bit in there. Again, I'm not any kind of expert on scotch, but I'm certainly trying to expand my pallet.
It's got a longer lasting taste with very little smokey flavor.
In the end, it's a great scotch to throw in to mix things up. It certainly wouldn't be my main scotch, but it's an excellent compliment to any bar. I enjoyed it much more than the
Tomintoul 16 Year Scotch, but there is a $10-15 difference in price there.
(mods- can you please edit the title of the Tomintoul to include "16?" Thanks)
