Picked up this interesting selection on sale for $14.99 for a 750ml (normally $16.99). So, needless to say, I wasn't really expecting anything special. I'm glad I was so wrong. It's aged for 7 years. Which, in bourbon or scotch terms, isn't that long, but it's definitely longer than your typical s***ed rum. And you can certainly tell.
It smells fantastic. Just a hint of ethanol, but a very distinct cherry and caramel scent hits the nose. The taste? Well, it drinks like a dark rum, but not with a lot of overpowering molasses. It's very sweet, but doesn't leave that sort thick, glutinous mouth feel behind, as a sweet liqueur usually would. Tried it over ice, and also with coke. It's extremely drinkable either way.
The squat little bottle is pretty cool too (I apologize for the POS camera phone pic). It's textured, and has a little Franciscan monk guy on the front(though it's imported from India...weird). Anyway, in quality, and value, this is an awesome selection for people who enjoy rum. Would buy again!
