Default Hefeweizen

My buddy called me up yesterday and wants to brew a hef tomorrow.
We're going to do a traditional Hef......with atleast 50% wheat malt.
Very simple recipe......Should be a great summer brew

I'll try to take some pictures tomorrow

So.......Brewing day went pretty good.....My gravity's were a little bit off.....but that's ok......for some reason I'm not getting the efficiency that I want....but whatever

So this morning I get up early for work and check out the room where the fermentor is.........To see splatter all over the wall, the ceiling and goop on the floor Very vigorous fermentation leads to stuck airlock leads to kaboom!!! I had to clean up a mess when I got back home from work today

Typically I just use an airlock that fits tight in the top of my carboy. Similar to this:iipa_airlock.jpg

I really didn't expect the fermentation to be so vigorous and produce so much krausen that it would clog my airlock

Now I have more of something like this:

Bottled tonight.......because of the "explosion" we were one bottle off of two cases. Not bad though 23 22oz. bottles for about 35-40 bucks worth of ingredients

The Final Gravity hit pretty good.....we ended up with about 4.6 ABV, which is right in the middle for the style

Can't wait to try it in 2 weeks

So.....I tasted it a little early.....to check the carbonation. Not to bad....I think with a little age it will mellow out very nice.

On the nose it isn't very desirable. But the taste is spot on to what I wanted
