I went home last weekend and hit up my Dad's scotch collection. I've had this a few times before, but rarely was I sober enough to appreciate it. That and it was a while ago.
I was outright shocked at how smooth it was. The stuff is like water. There is no "bite" to it. It just goes down smooth and buttery (nice oak-buttery after taste). I didn't notice any smoky flavor. It's warm and long lasting.
Flavor was where it fell short, in my honest opinion. The flavor was disappointingly bland, to my personal tastes. I guess it was "balanced" but it felt like everything just mixed together, nothing stood out but the result wasn't any sort of great flavor. It was difficult to really separate any flavors out of it. In fact, adding ice did very little to "open up the flavor" as it normally does with scotch (I highly suggest Green Label if you want to experience this phenomenon).
Now, I'll say this- its not a BAD flavor. In fact, it's pretty good. I enjoyed it, but I honestly think my bottle of Chivas 18 had better flavor (that's about it though).
Also, I'd like to add that it comes in an awesome box.
Obviously, it's a f***ing awesome scotch. Perhaps the best everyday scotch because it's just so damn smooth. If you're looking for flavor though, I suggest looking elsewhere.

you should probably stop posting in the reviews section if you think johnnie walker is anything but scotch, nevertheless blue label.
As i said, wrong night to read the label. I have some blue around. For the money its just not impressive enough to buy. parents got the JW Collection for a Xmas present for me. Black, Green, Gold, Blue. The last drink is being saved for New Years.

They are all scotches... and the most popular scotches at that. It's kind of like saying "I misread the bottle of Grey Goose- I thought it was Gin"

I've had this straight and on the rocks, and I think the ice does make it a lot nicer (of course you could always add a little water to dumb down the bite of the alcohol so you can drink it faster...) I find the flavour to be quite well balanced and its very smooth. At least I've found going back down the scotch's that they are (esp. black + red) a lot rougher on the way down.
Expensive it is though, although have you seen the one above Blue? It's called King George V and is sold in a crystal case. Worth about $600...
Guys, don't drink scotch when you're drunk, and don't drink scotch to get drunk. It's a waste of fine scotch and there is a special rung in hell reserved for people who waste good scotch.
I only started drinking scotch a few weeks ago but I was told by a connoisseur and some internet articles that if you want flavour, look for it in single malt. The connoisseur at the liquor store completely skipped over the blended scotch section when he was picking out a bottle for me. (Turned out to be Aberlour 10 which was fine but pales in comparison to the Macallan)
