The beers that I just bought..
Well, I just got back from hitting some beer stores and brought home a trunk full of beer. My fridge is back looking like it did in the infamous picture I've floated around for a while...
But first... a moment of silence for a great source of beer that is no more. I was shocked to find out that Larry's Market (one of the biggest chains in this area) went bankrupt recently and is now gone. They had the best beer selection of anyone... and now all of their stores are history. Now I have to drive 40 miles for the good stuff.
So... here's what I brought home..
Unibroue - Chambly Noir
Unibroue - Ephemere (cranberry... I've only tried the apple)
Chimay - Premiere
St. Bernardus - Abt 12
Baron Brewing - Pilsner (local Seattle brewery)
Fire Station #5 - Fire Drill ESB Red (local)
Fire Station #5 - Bunker Gear Winter Ale (local)
Fire Station #5 - Fire Hydrant Hefeweisen (local)
d***'s Brewing Co - Grand Cru Belgian Style Ale (local)
d***'s Brewing Co - Silk Lady Belgian Style Ale (local)
New Belgium - 2 Below Winter Ale (this s*** KICKS if you can find it)
Red Hook - Copper Hook Ale (local)
Deschutes - Cinder Cone Red Ale (local)
Rogue - Hazelnut Brown Nectar (local - another awesome one)

I don't that crap, I drink microbrews pretty much exclusively. I know some of you live in beer-impaired areas, and aren't used to being able to buy this stuff pretty much anywhere.
Those are all pretty bad ass beers.

how is the Chimay Premiere? I have had the "red/white/blue" but not the Premiere.
Oh, and I hope the Unibroue - Ephemere is better to you than it was to me. It seemed over carbonated and over fizzy.
the
Unibroue - Chambly Noir i thought I had, but I do not. It is on my to-do list.
oh and check your pm's.

Its brewed in the area.
I've never had that version of Redhook, only the IPA/ESB/Blonde/Late Harvest.
Oh, is the Redhook IPA called Longhammer IPA up there yet?

I love microbrews as well. But, there aren't many that are for sale locally without going to the bars. I also don't drink enough at home to buy premium beers. If I drink at home I pretty much drink the standard piss beer.

Red Hook is brewed in Woodinville, WA... which is about 45 miles from me, and I've been to the brewery many times. They are probably the largest, most widely distributed brewery in this area. I bought the Copperhook because it's one of my favorites of theirs. And yeah, they have the Longhammer IPA up here... I am not really an IPA drinker myself (too much hop flavor, don't like it), so I didn't buy any of them. I've been drinking Red Hook ESB for ages, but I'm probably one of the few around that remembers it before Red Hook bought the recipe from the original brewery, and it was then called "Ballard Bitters".
Chimay Premiere is the "red" bottle, BTW...

Out here you can buy microbrews at the gas station mini mart. I just filled up my GTO and was chuckling because they had a couple of those beers in their cooler at the Chevron station. Most restaurants and clubs serve microbrews out here, and the Bellevue Tap House has 160 different beers on tap.
Check out their beer list.

We definately don't have those types of bars around here. We have a few that brew 2-3 microbrews, but thats about it.

I love Rogue, too... but I'm so close to the brewery that I have them all the time, and I've tried everything they have many many times.. so it's not really anything "new" to me. Good beer, though, that's why I keep buying it.
Haven't tried the Chambly Noir yet... looking forward to it.
There's two other Unibroues I haven't tried that I'm looking for... one is "15", and the other one I can't remember the name, but it has a little cartoon devil on the label.

La Fin Du Monde is my favorite beer... but it's not the kind of beer you throw at someone who's been drinking like Coors or Miller Lite or something. It's a very rich, complex beer. Needs to be served at a certain temperature (about 55 degrees), it's not the kind of beer you pull out and drink like Budweiser, and it's got about twice as much alcohol in it.

It tastes amazing to someone with a palate for beer. Stuff like Budweiser, Miller, and all that mainstream stuff.. that is what tastes like s***.
A good beer compared to that crap is like a great wine compared with something like Earnest & Julio Gallow, or wine in a box. Good wine doesn't come in a box. Good beer doesn't come in a can.
If you can't really tell the difference, or the good stuff tastes like s*** to you... well.. you've still got your training wheels on.

La Fin is amazingly tasty and is so high in alcohol that you don't have to practically chug the s*** to get a buzz. you can sip it slowly with your dinner and still get the same buzz.
speaking of la fin.. i haven't had it in like 9 months. i haven't found a place down here that sells it, and before i moved from colorado i had stopped going to the only liquor store that sold it because i banged the clerk and didn't call her back
