I broke out my first brew for the Superbowl, and I couldn't have been more pleased with how it turned out.
It was just a basic amber ale.
Everyone at the party seemed to really enjoy it, they were drinking it instead of the Fat Tire my brother had on tap. So Me > New Belgium.
But seriously, this s*** was good. It was a little sweet but it has a nice hoppy flavor to it, making for a really enjoyable beer.
As far as the whole process goes, I ran into a few 'minor' problems but nothing too serious. For one, the carboy cap/blowoff tube managed to get clogged and popped off, which made for a slight mess, but thankfully didn't seem to ruin the brew. I'm going to move up to a larger hose and not even bother with the carboy cap until the fermentation settles and I can throw the airlock on.
The big thing I struggled with was when it came to siphoning it. I was using the water-in-siphon tube method to get a good siphon going, but it wouldn't hold so I had to restart it a few times. I have since ordered an auto-siphon and am kinda mad at myself for not having one from the start.
For my next batch I'll be making a Nut Brown Ale. The grains smell Soooo f***ing good, I can't wait to get it underway, which will probably be this weekend.
