But why doesn't Chevy put out a car that could fully compete with those cars in every cat other than performance? Just curious to what ya'll would think of a super 'vette that was in the 6 figures area that had the technology and the money put into the testing to really compete with Ferrari
|
The problem with that is, no matter how "high quality" they make the vette, no matter how great the interior, no matter how good the build quality, no matter how reliable, it is still a Chevy, and to many people that means it is s***, or atleast not as good as something with the name "Ferrari" or "Porsche" on it....
How many people that spout off on here about how much better porsche or BMW, is than GM have any real world experience with either? Very few..
Perception is everything...

No I don't, because everyone is so F-ing brainwashed to think that foreign cars are better.

For us:

For starters, there is no riced out Civic that would be the total performance package that a Z06 is. If someone built one, I'd give him a big thumbs up.

People outside the US aren't buying exotics just because of how fast they are...one of the most comfortable seats I've been in was a DB9 in London. Put that car up against a Z06 in Europe and people will take the DB9 all day because of its comfort. Here, you'd be more to find ppl who want the Z06 because of its performance. DB9 only goes 200MPH, while the Z06 is able to achieve that for half the price. US sacrifices comfort to keep price down.

They haven't made one, because it wouldn't sell....
There is no market for a High dollar Chevrolet..
Its pretty easy to figure out that the market for a $65K vette that wipes the floor with $150+K "exotic" "exclusive" supercars is larger than the market for a $150K vette that does the same thing...

i read about ultimate sn95s and foxbodies all of the time in 5.0 mustang with full suspension, new custom interior, completely done up engines, that could give the z06 a run for it's money on any track.. so.. would you want one of them for about the same price?

But there is more of a market than just the US. Yea you may sell 80% more 'vettes with the numbers of beating the floor with exotics. But overseas they could care less.
Chevy is Chevy to them. Ferrari is Ferrari to them not Fiat.

I'll openly admit I just dont like porsche. Thats it- no rhyme or reason, they just aren't as appealing to me as their competitors- performance be damned. I just dont like it.

Will never happen As I said JD, they care about comfort and luxury over performance. Look at the BMW threads we have on here and every one of them has ppl raving about how comfortable those cars are.

no because we were talking about prestige and what not. half of the argument is performance while the other half chooses the other amenities. the aforementioned stangs are the ultimate performance bargain, because lets say all done up, they can go for $45k. which is it? ultimate stang or z06?

And they don't need to. There's enough people with lots of money to spend on their cars.
Still, I look favorable on Chevy for making a car that can compete (and win) for a lot less dough.

so do z06's.
and you are right, not for the same price, you can probably get the previously mentioned stangs for $10-20k cheaper.

I would take the new vette over the 10 old pimped mustang. I would rather not deal with someone's custom s*** or a race car suspension.

You seem to keep confusing "car" with "performance car"..
When something is called a "PERFORMANCE" car, that means performance is the most important feature, everything else is secondary...
A performance car can be comfortable, but it comfort is the best feature or the one most important to you, you do not want a "PERFORMANCE" car...

However, you are aftermarketing the car to beat something that came that way from factory. Reason tuner cars can't be included in this is because you are changing it from stock. Thats like JD taking a Z06 and putting $60k into it and REALLY destroying a Ferrari. Of course your going to take that over a ferrari b/c its still cheaper.

They ride about like BMW's under normal driving, but with more interior noise.
