Default Dogfish Head: Black and Blue

I went into the liquor store tonight for just a bottle of something to get f***ed up off of. However, I then saw that DFH had a new offering It's called Black and Blue, and it's like a Belgian ale that has been brewed blackberry and blueberry puree. Cost me $10.99 for a 750. I brought it out of the fridge and let it warm for about ten minutes. It pours a really gorgeous dark red color(you can't tell from the pic). You can smell some of the hops, but mostly fruit comes through. The taste was just ok at first. You can't really taste much of the hops or malt at all, a vaguely blueberry-ish taste dominates. The texture is a little thicker than I prefer. Then I let it warm up a bit more, and the taste seemed to improve. It's definite blueberry at first and then a very pleasant blackberry finish. Clearly, I have it in a pint glass, perhaps a different glass would yield different results. All in all, I was a bit disappointed with it, the fruit aspect tasted fantastic, but I was hoping for a bit more balance. If you're looking for complexity, I can't say I recommend this one. Sorry for the s***ty camera phone pic btw.

There's another one that's been out (I didn't know about it somehow) called Red and White. People are saying that's even better than Black and Blue

The actual brewery itself, or the bar in Rehoboth?

I also tried the black & blue a couple of wks ago, and this is the first DFH offering I wasn't crazy about, although I did enjoy the punch at 10%/alc.

I really need to keep my eyes open for the Red & White, hopefully it will top the Black & Blue. After a second sampleing of the Black & Blue, I think it has a heavy sort of malt liquor fruitty after-taste.
