Partly, because it makes the site look like a circus.

Half a dozen people start throwing accusations around and suddenly it's accepted as truth. Most of the people over there don't know or care what happened, but if the chance to be part of a lynch mob presents itself, hey they're on it like stink on $hit.

They can't be altered or faked very easily, no way. Berman just decided to get her off the internets while he was banned from LS2 while she never denied it, quit LS2, took her own page down, and generally acts kooky about the whole thng with her "tee hee, I'll blow it off" attitude.

One side seems pretty real to me, with some fallout that makes sense, while your talking about a 3rd person IM screenshot.
