The people that really know their s*** are either mods or work for a sponsor.

I don't see how that's a dumb comment from a BUSINESS standpoint of an OWNER. People who mod their cars buy parts from sponsors who pay you to advertise. If people are "over" modding their cars, they aren't buying parts, the sponsors aren't making money and the board goes under because no one is gonna pay out of pocket for the bandwidth for someone to sit there and BS with their friends like a leech that doesn't contribute.

In fact, the dumbest comment ever is that people are "over" modding their cars... if they aren't there for cars, what the hell are they doing on a car board? Go be "over" modding cars on a f***in off-topic site, ya nimrods!

To think that a "car site" should even cater to these people in the slightest way is the most ludicrous idea ever!!

The technical knowledge is there... those people would just rather post on TECH because it's obvious that LS2 don't give a flying s*** about them, and LS1TECH is so much more supportive of the community... where LS2 is just a bunch of post w****s who are completely worthless to the sponsors for the most part, and that's all a good chunk of the staff really give a f*** about.

From the standpoint of a business owner, someone who doesn't mod their car IS completely worthless.

It won't go under tomorrow, but I have my doubts that they will go far beyond 2008. Didn't Elmer allude to the fact that 2007 was paid for, but after that "we'll see?"

It's true. I copied the quote here somewhere. Let me see if I can find it.

edit: Can't find it... He said something to the effect of "2007 is taken care of. We'll see about 2008."

He has no plan, so it would stand to reason that he can't forsee where they'll be in a year. Of course, he's probably more thinking about whether he's gonna still be alive in a year... old f***er should just retire and let someone who knows what the f*** they're doing drive the bus instead of him putting around the block in it.

IF LS2 were to die, I think it would be more of a long drawn out death like cancer, rather than a beheadding.

LS1.com is still up and running, so I doubt that LS2 would ever die out completely unless the owners just decided to stop paying the bills.

Why the f*** do threads go to the archives so quick?

f***ing cheap f***ers claimed the site was going to be powerful and normal, but it's turning into LS1 s***.

It is not a limitation of the server, it is a limitation of VBB/MySQL and how it handles load and searches. The hardware they are running *IS* light years beyond what LS1.COM is running... I picked the server out, and it's plenty beefy for what they are using it for.... anything more would be overkill and wouldn't correct the issues.

According to Zed, upgrading vBulletin to a newer version is out of the question because it's less efficient than VB2. I don't think he can tweak VB2 more than he already has, so the only other solution would be more server power, right?

Honestly, I think the issue there is partially that he doesn't want to take the time to relearn how to do things, since vbb3 is so much different than vbb2. I think they look at LS1TECH and assume they'll have the same problems without considering that people hit the search on LS1TECH about 1000 times more than they do on LS2. Searches are f***ing hell on the database.

But yeah, if they increase the load much more, they will need a bigger server... but a server bottleneck is most definitely not one of their current issues.

He just doesn't like the plugin/hook system on VB3. He has a point too. It's great for small boards, but causes too much overhead for large boards. That can be disabled and hacks can be hardcoded the old fashioned way though. That's definitely not beyond his capability.

I have no idea why he really doesn't want to upgrade.
