Last Wednesday I was on my way to MO for a short stay. Heading Westbound on I-72, I was pulled over doing 77 in a 65 *that highway should be at least 70.* I'm a little nervous as I've only been pulled over one other time (bulls*** reason) in my ~6-7 years of driving, and I would like to get out of this without a ticket. So, the trooper gets my info and is talking to me about where I'm going, etc. and responds to my nervousness with, "I see you're nervous... are you carrying any illegal narcotics or weapons?" Since I never smoke much less carry illegal weapons, I tell him no and that my nervousness is simply because I never get pulled over. Well, he walks away with my info and comes back with his f***ing K-9 unit.

He has the dog sniff around my car and the dog barks at the passenger side and the front of the car *near the driver headlight* He has me step out of the vehicle and informs me that the dog barking is "an alert" and he wants to know if he has my permission to search my car. Well, I have nothing to hide, and want to get the f*** out of there... so I tell him to go ahead. I mean, what else am I going to do? I'm in the middle of nowhere with a cop that can make life hard for me if he so chooses. So he pats me down, and searches my car. He searches under the seats, checks my suitcase, etc. etc.*Oddly enough he doesn't pop the hood to check the engine bay, since that was one of the places the dog barked.*
Of course, he finds nothing and what do I get for all of my troubles? A ticket -granted, I did break the law, so I did deserve the ticket- and a passenger-side door with scratches on it where the dog jumped on my car. I'm sure I could try to fight to get my door fixed, but why do I highly doubt that it would yield anything but time and money down the drain? I don't want to dislike cops, but f*** does this encounter leave a bad taste in my mouth.
